Last expansion of America’s most iconic cemetery

Phyto Studio served as the planting subconsultant to Rhodeside & Harwell Inc. for an 80-acre expansion of Arlington National Cemetery, the last expansion of America’s most iconic military burial ground. Phyto’s role includes the selection of hundreds of species of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants to fit the character of the existing cemetery. Phyto’s planting strategy pushes the use of urban tolerant native trees from southern habitats, expands the use of plants with known ecological benefits, and creates several acreas of biodiverse herbaceous gardens within the columbarium section.
