Emilie is an Associate Landscape Architect with Phyto Studio, leading a variety of residential, public garden, and institutional work. With a unique background as a student of geology and landscape architecture, Emilie takes a comprehensive approach to design that is informed by the many layers of each site – from the underlying geological formations and soil profiles to the site’s ecological systems that are visible in the landscape. Her passion for plants stems from her understanding of the imperative role they play on our planet and her desire to create spaces that benefit both humans and the surrounding environment.

Prior to joining the Phyto team, Emilie spent time working as an interpretive Park Ranger in Rocky Mountain National Park and consulted with non-profits on fundraising and advocacy strategies. After receiving her Master’s degree in landscape architecture, she worked both with residential clients and, most recently, as a project manager and lead planting designer at Design Collective. While there, Emilie worked on a wide array of projects including green roof terraces, integrated stormwater courtyards and plazas for commercial clients, several Baltimore City public elementary schools, and the Calvert Marine Museum’s Site Master Plan.

Emilie is a licensed Landscape Architect in Maryland. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and Spanish from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Maryland, where she was selected by faculty to be the 2013 University Olmsted Scholar. Emilie is dedicated to educating the next generation of landscape architects and has guest lectured at the University of Maryland.
