Toronto Botanical Garden
Thirty-acre expansion of iconic urban botanical garden
Phyto Studio currently serves as lead garden designer for the 31-acre expansion of Toronto Botanical Garden into Edwards Gardens. Phyto is a subconsultant to PMA Landscape Architects. The project goal is to transform what is currently the smallest botanic garden in North America into a world-class destination by leveraging new opportunities afforded by an expansion. The expansion includes renovation of existing gardens, new buildings, gathering spaces, and a 100-meter pedestrian bridge linking the garden over a natural ravine. Phyto is developing a series of garden spaces that is an elegant, stylized expression of the historic tablelands and ravines landscapes that once typified the site.Working within the parameters of an approved master plan, Phyto has re-shaped the concepts for the core gardens, focusing on putting colorful and dynamic ecological horticulture in the forefront of the main gardens. During schematic design, Phyto developed new concepts for circulation and garden spaces.
